New year is a fresh start but I’m not one for making huge goals but rather small actionable changes. When it comes to making changes to live more sustainably it can be overwhelming and seem like there is so much you need to do. But if you take one action at a time and do it for a month it will become a habit and then you can then add another. Even if you have only made one or two sustainable swaps in 2022 it is still a step in the right direction. Here we share 22 family sustainable swaps for 2022, no need to tick off the whole list, some you will probably already be doing.

  1. Go Paperless for Bills
  2. Search with Ecosia
  3. But leftovers straight in the freezer
  4. Shop-second hand
  5. Refill cleaning supplies at your local refill shop
  6. Carry a reusable bottle/mug so no need to use plastic bottles or disposable mugs when you are out and about.
  7. Consider using cloth nappies
  8. Switch one meal to meat-free each week
  9. Sell or donate items you no longer need, don’t dump them
  10. Unplug appliances when not in use/overnight
  11. Use your phone to take notes
  12. Save gift bags/large wrapping to reuse.
  13. Do regular fridge/cupboard audits so you are aware of use by dates so food doesn’t get wasted
  14. Borrow books from the library rather than buying them
  15. Switch to shampoo bars
  16. Try to repair rather than replace
  17. Use sustainable period products eg period pants or moon cup
  18. Switch to LED light bulbs when they need replacing
  19. Shop local
  20. Take showers rather than baths
  21. Hang dry your laundry rather than using a tumble dryer
  22. Compost as much food waste a possible.
